Corti Capital and the Corsican center
Located in the heart of the island, Corti (Corte) is the historical and cultural capital of Corsica. Formerly the capital of the Corsican nation in the 18th century under the rule of Pasquale Paoli, it still houses the powerful symbols of this period, including its hilltop citadel, the only mountain citadel in Corsica, proudly overlooking the Tavignanu Valley.
Corte's town center blends narrow streets, stone houses, and lively squares, offering a direct link to the island's history. It also houses the Museum of Corsica, housed in the citadel, which highlights the richness of Corsican identity through the centuries.
But Central Corsica isn't just a land of history: it's also a territory of unspoiled nature, mountains, forests, and torrents. The Tavignanu and Restonica valleys, listed as Grand Sites de France, offer numerous hiking trails accessible to all levels. From natural pools to high-altitude lakes, hikers and athletes alike will find a unique terrain of exploration.
A land of authenticity, culture and majestic landscapes, Central Corsica is an ideal destination for discovering a vibrant, proud and welcoming inland Corsica.
